Some children arrive in reception class with underdeveloped fine motor skills and difficulty manipulating classroom equipment. This can be for a range of reasons including; having had limited experience and opportunity to develop basic skills and/or some underlying physical/neurological issue. When children are not able or safe in using classroom equipment it will impact on their sense of achievement, ability to record ideas and on teaching staff’s need to provide supervision and additional support.
This session will introduce first level interventions which can be implemented to help those children who just need some support to embed basic skills.
The training is focused on primary school level children and appropriate for SENCO, Teaching Assistants and Teachers and the workshop will explore:
· What underlying skill sets are required to develop functional use of classroom equipment
· Developmental approaches to improving skill sets
· Equipment and resources
The course will be delivered by Liz Ann Davidson, an occupational therapist from Jigsaw Therapy Services Ltd. Liz Ann has over 25 years’ experience in working with children who have sensory processing difficulties, within NHS services providing diagnostic assessment and intervention and, over the last 10 years, within the independent sector providing interventions, advice and training to schools and parents.
This course costs £30 for parents and £100 for professionals – you will receive an invoice following confirmation of your place on the programme.
