This practical course is designed for Teachers, TAs, SENCO’s and Nurture Group staff working in SEND schools who want to explore how LEGO® can be used to support pupil engagement
This practical course is designed for Teachers, TAs, SENCO’s and Nurture Group staff working in SEND schools who want to explore how LEGO® can be used to support pupil engagement and as a therapeutic medium to unlock children’s potential.
The course reflects Ofsted’s emphasis on building learning behaviour and inspiring children to learn.
The Nurture ABC™ course follows LEGO® Education’s 4C approach to learning and facilitation. It looks at problem-solving, expression and exploration of emotions and stimulates the imagination of both the practitioners and pupils.
Nurture ABC™ approach encourages pupils to express their thoughts and ideas symbolically, which is a playful, creative and hands-on way of engaging pupils of all abilities. The method ensures a secure and non-judgemental process for solving problems, expressing personal feelings and breaks down barriers that can affect achievement in curriculum based topics.
This training will be delivered by Angi Franklin of Nurture UK who is a training officer for NurtureUK. Angi is qualified teacher and has used LEGO® with preschool, primary, secondary and in FE. In 2015, after being trained by the LEGO® Academy in Billund, Angi became a LEGO® accredited teacher trainer and has since then been delivering the 4C’s approach throughout the UK.
Course delegates will have opportunities for hands-on experience with the Nurture ABC™ box. Delegates will also have the chance to reflect on how the Nurture ABC™ processes and applications can be applied within their own workplaces.
Delegates will be involved and take an active role in the learning process to enable them to consolidate their roles as facilitators.
Delegate resource pack will include:
- Personal copy of the Nurture ABC™ – this includes over 226 LEGO® elements that have been carefully selected to provide a broad spectrum of ready-made ‘metaphors’
- A bank of ideas to practise in the classroom/nurture group
- Certificate of attendance
- Six Principles of Nurture poster
This full day course costs £190 and includes the resource pack and lunch. You will receive an invoice following confirmation of your place on the programme. Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
