Talk Boost is a targeted and evidence-based intervention aimed at 4-7 year olds with delayed speech, language and communication. These children often have difficulties with reading, writing, and spelling and are more likely to have behavioural issues. The programme is delivered in primary schools by classroom teachers and assistants and provides a structured programme that accelerates children’s progress in language and communication by an average of 18 months after a ten week intervention. Since its launch, over 58,000 children have benefited from the programme.
This training programme is for teachers and teaching assistants working in reception, year one and year two. The training will give participants the skills and knowledge to understand the rationale behind Talk Boost, identify appropriate children, use the programme materials, measure children’s progress and deliver the intervention successfully.
Talk Boost can also assist primary schools to meet Ofsted’s criteria in evaluating the standards in communication and judging how schools narrow the gap between children with the lowest and highest attainment using the Talk Boost Classroom Checklist, Progression Tool and Child Attitude Survey to measure and analyse progress which supports Pupil Premium.
The training is delivered by Joanne Kennedy, an Associate Teacher for Sunningdale School and the Language & Learning Partnership, who has many years’ experience of supporting children with complex needs within education. Joanne is licensed by I CAN to deliver talk Boost training.
Training is undertaken in pairs – it is important that staff attend in teacher and teaching assistant training pairs, as this is the structure that the intervention is based around.
The cost of the programme per trainee pair is £120 plus £480 for a Complete Resource Bundle which is purchased directly from I CAN. You will receive an invoice for £600 upon registration, payable in advance of the training to cover the cost of the starter kit.
