Event Details

This workshop is designed for individuals undertaking Initial Teacher Training, NQT’s and mainstream Teachers wishing to consider differentiating for pupils with Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. The session involves breaking down differentiation into its most basic elements and considering how these can be utilised, manipulated and put back together in order to have the greatest impact on a class with a diverse profile of pupil needs.

Workshop facilitator James Waller has worked with young people with learning difficulties for the last 16 years. He has spent his teaching career in both Primary and Secondary phases of education specifically working with children with Moderate, Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and Autism. He is currently Deputy Head Teacher at Sunningdale School, an Outstanding provision in Sunderland for pupils with Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.

James additionally works as a visiting lecturer for Northumbria University and a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) for the Dales Teaching School Alliance in Northumberland. James has previously managed the Language and Learning Partnership and the Portage service on behalf of Sunderland Local Authority.
