“Many schools are organised as they are because they always have been, not because they must be.”
Ken Robinson

Ours isn’t.

At Sunningdale School, we have crafted a groundbreaking multi-tiered curriculum approach designed to empower pupils with severe, complex, profound, and multiple learning difficulties. Our philosophy is grounded in the belief that every child has the potential to “Be More.” This guiding principle drives our commitment to nurturing each child’s individual growth, ensuring they become more in ways that are meaningful to them.

Our vision, encapsulated in the phrase “Be More,” underscores our dedication to fostering each child’s unique potential. We understand that what it means to “Be More” will vary for each child. To bring this vision to life, we employ a highly personalised planning system, complete with Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) and a deep understanding of Engagement motivators. We developed our pathway approach based on the unique needs and growing complexity of the pupil groups attending the school.

“Leaders have developed an inspirational curriculum that ensures that learning is tailored to meet the needs of all pupils.” – Ofsted (June 2023)

We organise our classes into three distinct pedagogical pathways that span from the Early Years Foundation Stage through Key Stages 1 and 2, leading to transition to relevant secondary provisions in Year 6:

Pre-formal Pathway: Rooted in a pre-formal, informal, and low-demand approach, this pathway provides a strong foundation for our learners.

Explore Pathway: Designed to encourage exploration and growth, this pathway offers a balance between structure and flexibility.

Semi-formal Play Pathway: Our play-based pedagogy takes centre stage in this pathway, helping pupils develop essential skills while having fun.

Our curriculum model is tiered to progressively develop skills, knowledge, and holistic growth within and across each pathway. We tailor curriculum areas to align with the developmental needs of our pupils in each pathway, ensuring they receive the support they require. Our pathways are designed to align seamlessly with Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) outcomes, including Employment, Independent Living, Community Participation, and Friendships & Relationships.

To provide deeper insights into our approach, we are launching a series of practice sharing days. Delegates will learn directly from our senior and middle leaders, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how our subjects, pedagogy, and assessment strategies are structured to facilitate individualised outcomes for our pupils. Additionally, delegates will have the opportunity to engage with our leaders, visit our classrooms, and explore our facilities.

At Sunningdale School, we challenge the status quo, forging a unique educational path that prioritises the growth and development of each child we serve. Join us on this transformative journey as we strive to help every child “Be More.” For further details, visit our website: http://www.sunningdaleschool.com/curriculum/curriculumoverview.htm

Places will be limited to ensure that delegates take as much from the day as possible but will also offer some opportunities to network with like-minded provisions.

The cost is set at £100 per person. The day will include a buffet lunch and networking session.

Please get in touch if you would like support with accommodation or travel recommendations.
