Makaton is a language programme, using signs and symbols alongside speech, which can be used with children and adults who need help with communication.

This training course teaches Stages 1-4 of the Makaton core vocabulary and includes course manuals with copies of all signs and symbols taught.

This course is for parents, carers, or professionals who want to learn Makaton to support children’s language and communication development. No previous experience of Makaton is necessary.

The training is provided by the Language & Learning Partnership. All tutors are qualified and hold a licence to deliver Makaton workshops.

The course will be delivered over 4 sessions as follows. Please note: participants need to be able attend all 4 sessions:

• Thursday 6th February 9.30am – 12.30pm
• Thursday 13th February, 9.30am – 12.30pm
• Thursday 27th February, 9.30am – 12.30pm
• Thursday 5th March, 9.30am – 12.30pm

This course costs £30 for parents and £130 for professionals (£100 for professional working inside the Sunderland area) – you will receive an invoice following confirmation of your place on the programme. Training manuals will be provided.
