Event Details

This Sensory Processing training  has been designed to help professionals and parents understand the components of sensory processing, identify difficulties and develop strategies which can impact on the child’s ability to cope and function more effectively.

The way we perceive, manage, process and act on the sensory information we receive is very unique. As we get older we begin to understand this and manage our preferences and sensitivities more effectively. Children are more likely to exhibit behaviours that indicate differences in their sensory processing as they are less aware or concerned with the social expectations than adults.

Some children have extreme difficulties and differences in the way their nervous system processes information from the senses. Conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Dyspraxia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can exacerbate difficulties further and the resulting behaviours can be very extreme and confusing to the child, parents and professionals

The training will include:

  • Introduction to the senses and individual thresholds
  • Sensory Regulation and the Limbic System (fight or flight)
  • Identification of sensory difficulties
  • Intervention strategies:
  • Calming and alerting
  • Environmental management
  • Sensory regulation

The course will be delivered by Liz Ann Davidson, an occupational therapist from Jigsaw Therapy Services Ltd. Liz Ann has over 25 years experience in working with children who have sensory processing difficulties, within NHS services providing diagnostic assessment and intervention and, over the last 10 years, within the independent sector providing interventions, advice and training to schools and parents.

Due to current restrictions, this session will take place via the Zoom virtual  platform over two sessions on the 5th and 11th of March, 9.15am until 12.15pm.

All delegates will be sent access codes/ links prior to the virtual sessions.
